There was just one dove and a woodpecker having a talk about who should fly off. Then two more doves showed up to see what was going on. The woodpecker stood its ground, even when she was outnumbered. The three doves flew off, leaving the woodpecker by herself to hunt for food.

The cardinals mating season begins in March. The male will protect his breeding area from any other male cardinal that shows up.
Northern Cardinals, males We watched the female and male flying over to this tree several times. What they were doing on the tree was watching for anything that moves in the grass.
When they spotted something they would fly down and grab the insect and fly back to the tree to eat it. Eastern Bluebird, male The woodpecker is tearing apart an old stump, looking for insects. Some of the foods that they like are; carpenter ants, other types of insects, berries, fruits, larvae of wood-boring beetles, termites and nuts.
