Some of the food that Wild turkeys will eat; fruit, seeds, nuts, and insects, and perhaps small lizards. Their wingspan can be as wide as 6 feet. Guess where the wild turkey got its name? Their name comes from the nation of Turkey.
Way back in time, European visitors to American saw the bird, and it reminded them of their bird back home, know as a Turkey bird. The female turkey can have anywhere from 4 chicks and up to as many as 17 young ones. She will feed her young ones after they have hatch for only a few days, after that they learn to feed on their own and to take care of themselves.
The mother turkey and her chicks will join with other mom turkeys and their chicks and hang out together as a group. They will travel together looking for food. Some of the things that they like to eat; insects, different kind of fruits, like berries, crab-apples and wild grapes. Also; nuts, grass and tender young leaves, seeds, and grains. They scratch on the ground, turning over leaves, etc. and moving them out of their way when looking for food. |
